知らなかったんだけど、ビンラディンのコードネームは「ジェロニモ」だったらしい。

Geronimo (Goyathlay)

Geronimo (Goyathlay), b. presentday site of Clifton, Ariz., 1829; d. 1909. American Indian warrior. Renowned as a great medicine man and spiritual leader, Geronimo was one of the last holdouts against the inexorable white settlement of North America. His elite band of Apache warriors raided white settlements in what is now Arizona and New Mexico before being captured and forced onto a reservation in 1876. Geronimo escaped and eluded U.S. troops for a decade. Forced to surrender in 1886, he was shipped to Florida for imprisonment. Geronimo was ultimately settled in Oklahoma and never saw his homeland again.

ジェロニモ（Geronimo、本名：Goyathlay、1829年6月16日 - 1909年2月17日）はアメリカインディアン、アパッチ族のシャーマン、対白人抵抗戦である「アパッチ戦争」に身を投じた戦士。なお、部族の酋長と誤解されている例も多いが、酋長ではない。

メキシコ軍に家族が虐殺されたのを機に、アパッチ族の戦士たちとともに対白人のゲリラ戦に従事した。ちなみに戦士集団だったアパッチ族には「酋長に戦士が服従する」という義務も風習もない。戦士は結束はしてもすべて個人行動で動くものであって、戦士たちはジェロニモ個人を慕って抵抗戦をともにしたのである。ジェロニモが軍事的な指導をしたこともない。
